Initial Consultation
Your first Siddha Medicine session typically begins with a comprehensive intake where the practitioner gathers detailed information about your health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, diet, sleep patterns, and emotional state. The practitioner may ask about your predominant constitutional type based on the three vital energies (vatham, pittham, and kabam). This extended consultation—often lasting 45 minutes to over an hour—establishes a thorough baseline for personalized treatment recommendations.
Assessment and Diagnosis
Siddha practitioners employ traditional diagnostic methods that may include examination of the pulse (nadi), observation of the tongue and eyes, assessment of body constitution, and evaluation of urine. Some practitioners may also incorporate modern diagnostic tools. Based on this assessment, the practitioner identifies any imbalances in your vital energies and determines the root causes of your health concerns rather than just addressing surface symptoms.
Treatment Planning
Following diagnosis, the practitioner develops a personalized treatment plan that typically combines multiple modalities. This may include herbal remedies (which might be powders, oils, pastes, or decoctions), dietary modifications tailored to your constitution and condition, lifestyle adjustments, and potentially therapeutic practices. Treatment recommendations are explained in detail, including expected timelines and any dietary or lifestyle restrictions to observe.
Follow-up Sessions
Subsequent appointments are generally shorter (20-40 minutes) and focus on monitoring your progress, adjusting treatments as needed, and reinforcing recommendations. Practitioners typically reassess your symptoms, adjust herbal formulations if necessary, and may recommend additional therapies. The frequency of follow-up visits depends on your condition's severity—some acute conditions may require weekly visits, while chronic conditions might need monthly check-ins. Most practitioners recommend an initial treatment period of 4-12 weeks before significant improvements are expected.
