Welcome to Kinesiology Association of Ireland

The Kinesiology Association of Ireland (KAI) is a national body representing the professional interests of qualified kinesiology practitioners and kinesiology students, and the personal interests of the public. We were founded in 1986 by professional kinesiologists who wanted to support one another and promote kinesiology, and today we aim to be the public face of kinesiology in Ireland.

We do not run training ourselves. Instead, we set the minimum education needed for professional membership, covering both kinesiology and other key subjects, and we evaluate courses and assign credits that students can build up toward professional status. We approve courses accredited by the International Kinesiology College and courses approved by the Australian Kinesiology Association, and we recommend the Touch for Health Synthesis as a foundation course. We also keep a record of instructors currently registered to teach their courses.

Our professional members follow the KAI Constitution, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, hold practitioner insurance, and keep up their continuing professional development. Full membership is offered at three levels, alongside associate, affiliate, student and Friends of the KAI categories. Members receive a listing on our website, a bi-monthly newsletter, contact with local kinesiology networks, and voting rights at our AGM.

If you are looking for a kinesiologist, you can use the Find Kinesiologists section of our website to locate a professional member. Each year we also run a kinesiology conference that is open to both members and the public. Our principles emphasize integrity, ongoing learning and encouraging each client to take responsibility for their own learning.

We are members of FICTA, which has been working with the national working group on proposed regulation of complementary therapy, and we contribute to those discussions on behalf of our members. We are also affiliated with the International Association of Specialised Kinesiologists. Our contact address is in Kinsale, County Cork, and you can reach us through the contact page on our website.
