Initial Consultation
Before your first RTT session, your practitioner will conduct a detailed intake conversation to understand your goals, medical history, current medications, and any psychological conditions. This consultation establishes rapport, clarifies what you hope to achieve, and ensures RTT is appropriate for your circumstances. You will receive information about what to expect and be asked to sign consent forms acknowledging that RTT complements rather than replaces medical or psychiatric care.
Treatment
During a typical RTT session (60–90 minutes), you will be guided into a relaxed state using progressive relaxation or guided imagery techniques. While in this calm, focused state—sometimes called hypnosis, though practitioners emphasize it is not sleep—your practitioner will engage you in reflective dialogue. Questions are designed to explore the origins of limiting beliefs, emotional patterns, and behavioural habits you wish to change. You remain fully aware and in control throughout, able to speak and respond freely. The practitioner may use reframing techniques to help you view situations differently or identify new perspectives on old patterns. Many people describe this state as deeply relaxing yet mentally alert.
After Treatment
Following the guided portion, you will be gently brought back to full awareness. Your practitioner may discuss insights that emerged, key shifts in perspective, or new understandings about your patterns. Some people feel emotional clarity or relief; others experience subtle shifts that unfold over days. You will typically receive a personalised audio recording of the session or a specially crafted affirmation track to listen to regularly at home, which is considered an important part of consolidating changes.
Follow-up Sessions
RTT typically involves 1–3 sessions total, though this varies based on individual needs and goals. Some practitioners recommend listening to your recorded session for several weeks before assessing whether additional sessions are needed. Follow-up appointments allow your practitioner to review progress, address new concerns, or deepen work on existing goals. Many clients report that changes continue to unfold between sessions.
