The American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) is a 5000+ strong, specialty nursing association founded in 1981 and headquartered in Topeka, Kansas. We support nurses and other healthcare professionals who approach care with attention to the whole person, including physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and environmental needs. Our story began when founder Charlie McGuire brought together 33 nurses from eight states for our first meeting in Houston, Texas. They shared a commitment to more compassionate healthcare and greater support for nurses themselves. That purpose continues to guide our work. We advance holistic nursing through education, research, advocacy, and professional community. Our offerings include continuing nursing education, webinars, self-study programs, an annual conference, and publications such as the Journal of Holistic Nursing and Beginnings magazine. Local chapters give members opportunities to exchange knowledge, build relationships, and practice self-care. We helped secure the American Nurses Association’s recognition of holistic nursing as an official specialty in 2006. Today, we continue to support its scope and standards of practice while encouraging research-informed care. Through professional learning and connection, we help nurses develop their practice and care for their own wellbeing alongside the people they serve.

The Healing Touch Professional Association (HTPA) supports Healing Touch students and practitioners through professional development, business resources, and community. Established in 2007 as part of Healing Touch Program, we help members navigate the responsibilities of practice while staying connected to colleagues. Our membership welcomes people at different stages, from introductory students to experienced certified practitioners. We offer educational programs, instructor-led practice groups, and opportunities to learn from peers. Through our Healer Development Series and recorded resources, members explore practical questions, ethical responsibilities, and approaches to developing their skills. We also help practitioners manage the business side of their work. Our resources include practice-building courses, marketing tools, client documentation templates, and guidance on professional boundaries. Eligible U.S.-based members can access optional liability insurance through our partnership with the Energy Medicine Professional Association. Local and virtual chapters, self-care gatherings, and a book club create space for shared learning and lasting connections. We also provide advocacy updates and grant opportunities for outreach and service. Across these activities, our purpose is to support responsible Healing Touch practice and help members build sustainable professional lives.
