Initial Consultation
A typical singing bowl session begins with a brief consultation where the practitioner asks about your health history, current stress levels, specific concerns, and any sensitivities to sound or vibration. They may discuss what you hope to experience and explain how the bowls will be used. This conversation helps the practitioner tailor the session to your needs and ensures there are no contraindications.
Treatment
During the session, you will typically lie down or sit in a comfortable, supported position in a quiet, dimly lit space. The practitioner will place singing bowls around or near your body and begin striking or rubbing them with a padded mallet or wooden stick. This creates resonant, sustained tones and vibrations. Some practitioners may place bowls directly on your body; others keep them at a distance. The session typically lasts 30–60 minutes, with the practitioner moving between bowls, varying the intensity and rhythm of the sounds. You may experience the vibrations as physically felt sensations, hear the tones clearly, or feel a sense of deep relaxation. Many people report a meditative or trance-like state during the experience.
After Treatment
After the bowls stop, you are usually given time to rest quietly and integrate the experience. The practitioner may allow 5–10 minutes of silence before gently bringing you back to awareness. You may feel deeply relaxed, peaceful, or occasionally emotional as you return to normal consciousness. It is common to feel calm and grounded for hours afterward. The practitioner will often recommend resting, drinking water, and avoiding strenuous activity for the remainder of the day.
Follow-up Sessions
Many practitioners recommend a series of sessions for cumulative effects, though this varies based on individual needs and preferences. Some people attend weekly, while others come monthly or as needed. The practitioner may adjust the approach based on your feedback and how you respond to treatment.
