In ordinary physical activity, muscle fatigue is self-limiting and resolves with rest within minutes to hours. Pathological muscle fatigue — where muscles tire after minimal exertion or fail to recover normally — may indicate myasthenia gravis (where the neuromuscular junction is impaired by autoimmune attack), mitochondrial myopathies, ME/CFS (where metabolic dysfunction impairs energy production), thyroid dysfunction, or severe nutritional deficiency. Persistent, disproportionate muscle fatigue following minimal activity warrants medical investigation.
