Preparing for Your Session

Your practitioner will likely suggest avoiding alcohol for 24 hours beforehand and eating lightly on the day—heavy meals can make relaxation more difficult. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that won't restrict your breathing or circulation whilst lying down for extended periods.

Bring a notebook and pen if you wish to capture insights immediately afterwards. Many people find that impressions fade quickly, like dreams upon waking. Some practitioners record sessions with your permission, which can be helpful for later reflection.

Arrive with an open but realistic mindset. Past life exploration works through relaxation and receptivity rather than force or expectation. Setting a general intention—such as understanding a recurring life pattern or exploring spiritual connections—can be more helpful than seeking specific historical details.

The Session Journey

Sessions typically begin with 15-20 minutes of discussion. Your practitioner will explain their approach, address any concerns, and help you set intentions for the exploration. They might ask about recurring dreams, unexplained fears, or life patterns you'd like to understand better.

The regression phase begins with guided relaxation, similar to hypnotherapy or deep meditation. You'll remain conscious throughout—this isn't stage hypnosis. Your practitioner will guide you through progressive muscle relaxation and breathing techniques, often taking 20-30 minutes to reach a sufficiently receptive state.

Once deeply relaxed, your practitioner will guide you backwards through your current life, then further back to 'previous lifetimes'. You might experience vivid visual sequences, emotional impressions, physical sensations, or simply 'knowing' certain information. Some people see detailed scenes like films; others receive more abstract impressions or feelings.

The active exploration typically lasts 45-60 minutes. Your practitioner will guide you to examine significant moments, relationships, or deaths in these recalled lifetimes, always maintaining your emotional safety and comfort.

What You Might Experience

Experiences vary dramatically between individuals and sessions. You might perceive yourself as different genders, ages, or in unfamiliar historical periods. Some people report seeing themselves in ancient civilisations, whilst others experience more recent centuries or even futuristic scenarios.

Physically, you may feel sensations in your body that correspond to your recalled experiences—warmth from imagined sunlight, the texture of different clothing, or even physical memories of injuries or illnesses from these lifetimes. Emotional responses often feel surprisingly intense and immediate.

Not everyone experiences vivid narratives. Some receive subtle impressions, symbolic images, or simply strong emotional responses to certain time periods or relationships. Your subconscious mind may communicate through metaphor rather than literal memory—and this symbolic information can be equally meaningful.

After returning to normal consciousness, many people feel deeply relaxed, occasionally emotional, and often surprised by what emerged. The experience can feel profoundly real, like a particularly vivid dream, or simply like an interesting meditation.

Aftercare and Integration

Plan for quiet time immediately following your session. Many practitioners recommend avoiding demanding activities for the rest of the day, as you may feel emotionally or energetically sensitive. Drink plenty of water and eat grounding foods if you feel lightheaded or disconnected.

Record your experiences whilst they're fresh—write down key scenes, relationships, emotions, or insights that emerged. The conscious mind often struggles to retain these impressions, but writing them down helps with later reflection and pattern recognition.

Processing may continue for several days. Dreams might intensify, or you may find yourself noticing connections between your recalled experiences and current life situations. Some people report feeling temporary emotional shifts as they integrate insights about relationships or life patterns.

Avoid making major life decisions immediately based on session content. Past life exploration provides material for reflection rather than literal historical fact. Allow time to understand how these experiences might offer metaphorical insight into your current circumstances.

Building Your Exploration Practice

Most people find single sessions interesting but limited. A series of 3-4 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, allows for deeper exploration of different themes or lifetimes. Each session often reveals different aspects of your inner landscape or addresses various life questions.

Your second session typically feels easier—you'll know what to expect and may relax more readily. Subsequent sessions might explore different time periods, examine recurring relationships across lifetimes, or delve deeper into specific themes that emerged initially.

Some people work with past life exploration annually or when facing major life transitions, using it as a tool for spiritual reflection rather than regular therapy. Others integrate it with meditation practice or other consciousness exploration techniques.

Regular practitioners often develop their own inner exploration abilities, eventually accessing these states independently through meditation or dream work. Your practitioner may suggest techniques for continuing this inner work between formal sessions.
