Initial Consultation
The first session is comprehensive and typically longer than follow-up appointments (60-90 minutes). The practitioner conducts a detailed assessment covering medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, stress levels, emotional state, and spiritual beliefs or practices. This holistic intake often includes questions about sleep, nutrition, exercise, relationships, work satisfaction, and life purpose. Physical examination may be conducted, and the practitioner may use assessments from various traditions (such as pulse assessment in TCM or constitutional typing in Ayurveda) alongside conventional vital signs. The goal is to understand you as a complete person and identify root causes rather than treating isolated symptoms.
Treatment
Based on the assessment, a personalized treatment plan is developed that may include multiple modalities such as nutritional counseling, herbal or supplement recommendations, physical activity prescriptions, stress-reduction techniques, energy work, counseling, lifestyle modifications, and conventional medical referrals when appropriate. Sessions typically involve education about how various life domains affect health, practical strategies for change, and sometimes hands-on therapies. The practitioner may recommend specific practices such as meditation, yoga, journaling, or movement therapies. Treatment plans are collaborative, with the practitioner offering guidance and the client taking active responsibility for implementing changes.
After Treatment
You receive written summaries of recommendations, any prescribed supplements or herbs, and guidance on implementation. Many practitioners provide resources such as meditation audio files, meal plans, exercise routines, or reflection exercises to support your practice between sessions. You're encouraged to track changes in symptoms, energy levels, sleep, and overall well-being. Some practitioners use apps or journals to help monitor progress across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
Follow-up Sessions
Follow-up appointments (typically 30-60 minutes) assess progress, adjust recommendations based on results, and deepen your understanding of the connections between lifestyle and health. Sessions may occur weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on your condition and goals. As progress is made, sessions may become less frequent as you develop sustainable self-care practices. The relationship is ongoing and collaborative, with regular communication about what's working and what needs adjustment.
