Initial Consultation
Your first appointment typically begins with a detailed conversation about your current health status, wellness goals, and any specific concerns you'd like to address. The practitioner will ask about your medical history, stress levels, emotional state, and spiritual interests. This consultation helps the practitioner understand your needs and tailor the session approach. You may be asked about any physical discomfort, energy patterns you've noticed, or areas where you feel blocked or unbalanced.
Treatment
During the treatment, you will typically lie fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table in a calm, quiet environment. The practitioner may begin by centering themselves and setting an intention for the session. They will then place their hands on or near your body, often starting at the head and moving downward, working with energy centers (chakras) and energy pathways. You may experience warmth, tingling, or deep relaxation. The practitioner may use Reiki symbols mentally or energetically, incorporate guided visualization, or use intuitive movement. Some sessions include gentle touch; others are performed with hands held just above the body. The session typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes, creating space for your body and mind to settle into a state of deep relaxation and receptivity.
After Treatment
Following the session, you may feel deeply relaxed, calm, or energized—responses vary greatly. The practitioner may briefly discuss what they sensed or observed during the session and offer suggestions for supporting your healing. You may be advised to drink water, rest, or engage in gentle movement. Some people experience emotional release, vivid dreams, or subtle shifts in perspective over the following days. It's common to feel the effects unfold gradually rather than immediately.
Follow-up Sessions
Many practitioners recommend an initial series of sessions (typically 3-6) to establish momentum, followed by maintenance visits as needed. The frequency depends on your goals and response. Some clients come weekly initially, then monthly for maintenance; others visit as-needed for specific concerns. Your practitioner will discuss a personalized plan and may adjust frequency based on how you respond.
