Initial Consultation
Your first Reiki Massage session typically begins with a consultation where the practitioner asks about your health history, current concerns, stress levels, areas of physical tension, and wellness goals. This conversation helps the practitioner tailor the session to your needs. You will also discuss any injuries, chronic conditions, or areas where you prefer lighter or deeper touch. The practitioner may explain how Reiki energy principles complement the massage work.
Treatment
During the massage portion, you will lie clothed or partially draped on a massage table in a warm, quiet room with soft lighting and calming music. The practitioner will use traditional massage techniques—such as kneading, stroking, and pressure point work—to address muscle tension and improve circulation in areas you have identified or that the practitioner assesses through touch. As they work, the practitioner simultaneously channels Reiki energy, often holding hands slightly above or on your body at various points, particularly at energy centers (chakras) or areas of tension. Many clients report feeling warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or emotional shifts during this phase. The session typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes.
After Treatment
After the session, you may feel deeply relaxed, sometimes drowsy or in a meditative state. The practitioner will allow you time to rest and gradually reorient before sitting up. You will be encouraged to drink water and move slowly. Many practitioners provide post-session guidance, such as suggestions to rest, avoid strenuous activity for a few hours, and notice any physical or emotional responses over the following days. Some clients experience a 'healing response'—temporary fatigue, emotional release, or shifts in sensation—as the body processes the work.
Follow-up Sessions
Regular sessions are often recommended for cumulative benefits, though frequency varies based on your needs and goals. Some clients attend weekly for acute concerns, while others prefer monthly or quarterly sessions for maintenance and wellness. Your practitioner will discuss an appropriate schedule during your consultation and may adjust it based on your response to treatment.
