Initial Consultation
Your first session typically begins with a conversation about your goals, health history, and any physical or emotional concerns. The practitioner will explain how Sensorimotor Therapy works and what to expect. You may discuss specific areas of tension, chronic patterns, or life situations you'd like to explore. This is an opportunity to establish trust and ensure the approach feels right for you.
Treatment
During the session, you'll be guided through mindful movement and body awareness exercises. The practitioner may ask you to notice sensations—tension, ease, temperature, or texture—in different areas of your body. You might perform slow, intentional movements while observing the physical and emotional responses that arise. The practitioner may use gentle touch (if you consent) or verbal guidance to help you deepen awareness. Some sessions focus on releasing held tension; others emphasize building new patterns of movement and response. The pace is typically slow and exploratory, never forced.
After Treatment
After a session, you may feel relaxed, energized, or emotionally processing—responses vary. Many people notice improved body awareness and a sense of integration. Some experience emotional release or clarity. You might feel tired as your nervous system settles, or lighter if tension has shifted. The practitioner may suggest gentle self-care, such as staying hydrated, moving slowly, or journaling about any insights.
Follow-up Sessions
Many practitioners recommend regular sessions—weekly or bi-weekly—to develop consistent awareness and deepen change. Over time, you'll likely notice shifts in how you hold tension, respond to stress, or move through daily life. The practitioner may introduce new techniques or refine existing practices based on your progress and goals. Sessions often build on each other, creating a cumulative effect of integration and embodied awareness.
