Initial Consultation
Your first bioenergetics session begins with a comprehensive discussion about your physical and emotional health history. The practitioner will ask about current stresses, relationship patterns, physical symptoms, and what you hope to achieve. They will explain how bioenergetics works and what to expect during treatment. You may be asked to perform simple movements or breathing exercises to assess your current energy patterns and areas of tension. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended.
Treatment
Sessions typically last 50-90 minutes and take place in a private room with mats, pillows, and sometimes a bioenergetic stool. The practitioner guides you through various exercises that may include grounding positions, breathing techniques, vocal expression, and movement patterns designed to release tension. You might be asked to kick, hit a pillow, or make sounds to express suppressed emotions. The practitioner observes your body language, breathing patterns, and energy flow, offering verbal guidance and support throughout. Work is done at your own pace, and you can stop any exercise if it feels uncomfortable.
After Treatment
Following the session, there is typically time for integration and discussion. You may feel emotionally moved, physically tired, or energetically charged - all normal responses. The practitioner will help you process any emotions or insights that arose during the session. You'll receive guidance on simple exercises you can do at home to support the work. It's common to feel different sensations in your body or notice emotional shifts in the days following a session.
Follow-up Sessions
Subsequent sessions build on previous work, gradually addressing deeper patterns of tension and emotional holding. The practitioner tracks your progress and adjusts techniques accordingly. Sessions may focus on specific areas of the body or particular emotional themes. Many people work with bioenergetics on a weekly basis initially, then move to less frequent sessions as they develop greater body awareness and emotional regulation skills.
