Initial Consultation
The first session typically involves a comprehensive intake where the coach learns about your current life situation, challenges, aspirations, and what brought you to coaching. You'll discuss your values, strengths, and areas where you feel stuck or unfulfilled. The coach may use assessment tools, questionnaires, or reflective conversation to establish a baseline understanding of your circumstances and energy state. This session establishes rapport, clarifies goals, and helps determine if coaching is appropriate for your needs.
Treatment
Ongoing sessions (typically 50-90 minutes, monthly or weekly) focus on specific life domains such as career, relationships, health, finances, and personal growth. The coach may use various techniques including guided questioning, visualization exercises, values clarification exercises, action-planning, and mindfulness or energy-awareness practices. Sessions often involve identifying limiting beliefs, exploring alternative perspectives, and developing concrete steps toward your defined goals. The coach may assign between-session homework, such as journaling, meditation, or specific behavioral experiments designed to generate insights and momentum.
After Treatment
Following each session, you'll typically have specific action items or reflective practices to implement. Many clients experience an initial surge of clarity and motivation. The coach may provide written summaries, resources, or guided audio recordings for ongoing support between sessions. Some coaches offer email check-ins or brief phone consultations for accountability and clarification on assignments.
Follow-up Sessions
Continuing sessions build upon previous work, tracking progress toward identified goals while adapting the approach based on emerging insights or changing circumstances. The coach helps you navigate obstacles, celebrate wins, and deepen self-awareness. Most coaching relationships last 3-6 months to several years, depending on your goals and desired level of ongoing support. Regular sessions provide accountability, fresh perspective, and guidance through life transitions or complex challenges.
