Before Your Session
No special preparation is needed. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid a heavy meal immediately beforehand. Your practitioner will ask about your main concerns, health history, and any areas of pain or sensitivity to guide point selection.
The Session
You remain fully clothed throughout. Your practitioner applies firm, sustained pressure to specific points using their thumbs, fingers, or sometimes small tools. Pressure is held for 30–90 seconds per point. You may notice a sensation described as a 'good ache' — firm pressure that produces a distinct but comfortable feeling.
What You Might Notice
Deep relaxation is the most commonly reported experience. Some people notice warmth spreading from a pressure point, a sense of release in a tense area, or a brief emotional response. These responses are considered normal and are not cause for concern.
After the Session
Most people feel relaxed and grounded. Drinking water and resting where possible is recommended. Your practitioner will likely show you self-care points to use between sessions.
Learning Self-Care
One of acupressure's unique benefits is its portability. Many practitioners will teach you 2–3 relevant points to apply independently at home or during stressful moments — extending the benefits of the session and giving you an accessible tool for daily stress management.
