Initial Consultation
Your first shamanic healing session typically begins with a detailed consultation where the practitioner learns about your health concerns, spiritual goals, life circumstances, and any previous healing experiences. This conversation helps establish trust and allows the practitioner to understand what you hope to achieve. You may be asked about your beliefs regarding spirituality and healing, your openness to the process, and any physical or emotional sensitivities. The practitioner will explain their approach, what to expect during the session, and answer any questions you have.
Treatment
During the healing session, you will typically sit or lie in a comfortable, quiet space. The practitioner may use drumming, rattling, chanting, or other rhythmic sounds to enter an altered state of consciousness and access spiritual guidance. You may be asked to set an intention or focus on a specific issue. Some techniques include soul retrieval (retrieving fragmented parts of your spirit believed to have departed due to trauma), power animal retrieval (connecting with protective spiritual guides), or extraction work (removing unwanted energies). You may experience visualizations, emotional releases, physical sensations, or deep relaxation. The session length typically ranges from 60 to 90 minutes.
After Treatment
Following a session, you may feel deeply relaxed, emotionally moved, or energized. Some people experience immediate shifts in perspective or energy, while others report gradual changes over several days. The practitioner will discuss what occurred during the session and may provide integration guidance, such as journaling, spending time in nature, or practicing meditation. You might be advised to rest, stay hydrated, and avoid stressful situations for the remainder of the day. Some practitioners recommend returning home and reflecting on the experience rather than engaging in demanding activities.
Follow-up Sessions
Whether additional sessions are recommended depends on your specific concerns and the practitioner's assessment. Some issues may resolve after a single session, while others benefit from multiple sessions spaced over weeks or months. Follow-up sessions allow the practitioner to assess progress and address ongoing or emerging issues. Regular maintenance sessions are sometimes suggested for spiritual growth and prevention of imbalance, similar to other wellness practices. The practitioner will discuss a treatment plan and timeline during your initial consultation.
