Initial Consultation
Your first session begins with a comprehensive discussion about your health history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. The practitioner will explain the craniosacral approach and what to expect during treatment. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, typically lying on a comfortable treatment table in a quiet, relaxing environment.
Treatment
The practitioner uses an extremely light touch, typically no more than the weight of a nickel (about 5 grams), to assess your craniosacral rhythm and identify areas of restriction. They'll place their hands on various points including your head, neck, back, and pelvis to evaluate the movement of cerebrospinal fluid and the mobility of cranial bones and membranes. The treatment involves gentle holds and subtle movements designed to release restrictions and restore natural rhythm. Many people find the process deeply relaxing, and some may fall asleep during treatment.
After Treatment
Following the session, you may feel relaxed, energized, or sometimes temporarily tired as your body processes the treatment. The practitioner will discuss any findings and may provide recommendations for self-care, including rest, hydration, and gentle movement. Some people experience immediate relief, while others notice gradual improvements over several days.
Follow-up Sessions
Subsequent sessions typically focus on continuing to release restrictions and support your body's healing process. Treatment frequency varies based on your condition and response, with some people benefiting from weekly sessions initially, then spacing treatments further apart as improvements occur. Each session builds upon previous work, with the practitioner monitoring changes in your craniosacral rhythm and overall condition.
